A local, family owned and operated business. For over 21 years, Stonecutter’s has focused on providing the
highest quality natural stone and quartz countertops to our clients.
Our design assistants are both experienced and very talented. They will spend the time necessary to help you make the right
design choice and educate you on the material selections for your project. We know just how stressful building or remodeling can , be and want to make this a pleasurable experience.
The Stonecutter’s Guild, Inc. is owned and operated by Chuck and Tina Martin. Tina is a talented and creative designer and businesswoman. She manages the day to day business, but her primary focus is ensuring that our clients have a pleasant experience throughout the countertop purchasing process.
Chuck has Bachelor of Science degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Economics from the University of Missouri – Rolla. He spent 13 years in the oil field working for Schlumberger Oilfield Services. His geology background makes him very familiar with stone characteristics and how they perform as countertops in your home. Chuck measures for every job that goes through the Stonecutter’s shop, supervises the fabrication, and installations. It is this hands-on approach that Chuck and Tina believe in and will continue to provide to every customer.
In the fall of 1999, The Stonecutter’s Guild, Inc. opened for business in Huntsville, Alabama. It was only the second such granite fabrication shop to open in the city of Huntsville. Our primary goal was to supply a professional service to residential homebuilders and homeowners by providing natural stone countertops for their kitchens and bathroom vanities. The Stonecutter’s Guild, Inc. is a family owned and operated business. Tina’s brother, Mike Knox, had been working in the stone business in Huntsville for 7 years and was ready to take his Master Craftsman skills to the next level. The merging of a craftsman, a businessman, and a designer was a perfect combination and The Stonecutter’s Guild, Inc. was born. Mike left the company after 7 years to explore his other artistic talents.
Before we opened for business, we designed and built our fabrication shop to maximize our efficiencies. Our entire slab inventory is kept indoors so that our clients may view their slab comfortably. Our shop remains clean, as we encourage our clients to view the fabrication and feel the completed products so that they can see and understand that there are differences in our quality in the market. This education is one of our cornerstones.
Throughout the first 7 years, the new home market was booming. New construction made up +80% of our business with some remodeling. Home builders were our primary customers and our processes were geared to helping designers and new homeowners select stone for installation into newly constructed houses.
Remodeling is a completely different business and the homeowners have a completely different set of needs. Not to mention that remodeling can be overwhelming for some people. Trying to find good subcontractors can also be very difficult and intimidating. Identifying this need, The Stonecutter’s Guild put together a group of subcontractors that we are comfortable in referring (i.e. cabinetry, cabinet refinishing, tile setter, plumber, electrician, plumbing supply, and appliances). We do not take on the roll of a general contractor, but we do help walk our clients through the process and without hesitation make recommendations on who can help them. The Stonecutter’s Guild, Inc. will continue to identify the needs of our customers and work diligently to satisfy those needs now and in the future.
At our showroom, our design team is more than happy to meet with you about your remodel or new construction project. There is Tina, Michelle and Courtney that would be more than happy to help you! We have a wide selection of granites, marbles, quartz and other natural stones in our warehouses that will accommodate your job. If you are unable to find that perfect stone, we have a great relationship with our distributors and you can visit their warehouses via our links to find your material.
We completely understand that remodeling or new construction can be a stressful process, so we try to make it a pleasant experience for you. We have several different people that we work with such as tile setters, cabinet people, and plumbers that we can refer to help with your project and make it as easy as possible for you.
At Stonecutter’s, we also LOVE to educate our clients not only about natural stone, but the fabrication end of it and the difference between companies. Our warehouse and fabrication area is an extension to our showroom, and would be more than happy to talk you through the process.
